Biological Engineering <---- Links with industry

  • Fermentation industries which use micro-organisms for the transformation of substrates or the production of metabolites.
  • The food industry; developing, preserving, packaging and quality control of food products.
  • Industries using techniques of biochemistry, molecular biology and and immunology (pharmaceutical industry)
  • Industries involved in cleaning-up pollution.
These include large groups in the food industry (Unilever, Kraft Foods- with whom we have worked for 10 years- Danone, Nestlé, William Saurin) and in Pharmaceuticals and Vaccines (Aventis, Biomérieux, Pierre Fabre, Novartis Pharma).
We also work with small businesses in the food industry (Pagès SA, Le Puy en Velay; Souchon dAuvergne, Yssingeaux ; Salaisons Polette, Riom) and biotechnology (Proteus, Nîmes ; Diagast Laoratoires, Pessac ; Biogemma, Aubière).
The contact with industry is reflected in third year where a majority of lectures are given by visiting speakers from industry.
The logistics option generally attracts between three and six students from BE. This leads to openings in the large supermarket chains (Auchan, Casino, etc).

The BE department was closely involved in the creation of the BIOPOLE Clermont-Limagne, which is today one of the top 10 in Europe. Several former BE students have thus been able to set up their own businesses. It is also worth mentioning that most of the Biopole start-ups have taken on at least one Ploytech'Clermont (CUST) graduate.
